“Chadwick’s keen draftsmanship led him to experiment with charcoal as a medium. “Painting” now with charcoal, his subjects take on a unique yet natural character monochromatically.”
From: Arizona | Medium: Sealed Charcoal on panel
Like many of us, Chadwick Uptain eschews complexity in lieu of a simpler approach to life. As complex a person as they come, however, he is quiet yet deliberate, artistically speaking, and first and foremost a master of his craft, for he is fundamentally a craftsman.
A gifted silversmith, Chadwick has designed and fabricated jewelry since his youth – for the better part of 25 years. In his twenties he was given cause to pause and reflect upon life’s meaning and to choose his direction. He became addicted to worthy literature and sought to expand his intellectual horizons. In this quest he was successful. As uncomplicated as he poses, he nonetheless is as philosophical as the best of us.
His transition period allowed Chadwick to develop his creative talents. His graphic career began with figurative sketches of friends and acquaintances, and later of the fair sex. He acquired the facility to interpret the subjects of his muse in vivid colors. A fascination with the noble equine form followed. Chadwick’s keen draftsmanship led him to experiment with charcoal as a medium. “Painting” now with charcoal, his subjects take on a unique yet natural character monochromatically.
