About The Town Of Fountain Hills, Arizona

Fountain Hills was founded in 1971 by C. V. Wood, Jr., who also built Lake Havasu City and is credited with designing the London Bridge. Its name comes from the towering man-made fountain in the center of town (the tallest fountain in the world at the time it was built). Though it is not a true geyser, this fountain sprays water to a height of over 560 feet (171 m) once every hour during daylight hours. When it first operated, the fountain held 26,000 gallons (98,000 L) of water, had 17 jets at different heights that sprayed 22,000 US gallons/min (83,000 L/min), and used 1hp electric motors to circulate the water. The fountain was built to be an architectural landmark for the town.
