Stephen Merritt

Stephen Merritt was born in New York and graduated from Oberlin College in Ohio. He furthered his study in ceramics with and apprenticeship under Ishikawa Seiho, the founder of modern Unzen-style pottery (Unzen-yaki) and with Inoue Manji, a ceramist specializing in the white lacquered porcelain (hakuji). Since then Merritt has taught and exhibited around the world.
