Maria D’Angelo

“Detailed realism is my primary goal. I want my subjects to look as though they will come to life and leap off the paper.”

Maria D’Angelo

From: Staten Island, NY | Medium: Oil Paintings

I have always loved the feeling I get when I see the expression of joy on a person’s face after I capture their beloved pet, horse or family member on paper. To me there is no greater reward than being able to bring happiness to people through my art.

I have been creating art since I was a child growing up in Staten Island, NY and am most recognized for my graphite works of horses. Many of my original drawings are offered in galleries and exhibited in shows around the US but I also love to create portraits of people and their pets whether they be dogs, cats, horses or anything in between! I have even captured people’s homes and vehicles on paper!

I work in multiple mediums but the pencil, whether colored or graphite, is by far my most favorite tool of choice. I love the control and detail I can attain with a pencil. My pencil drawings are unique in the fact that they are mounted and coated with multiple layers of a special fixative so that they don’t need the protection of glass when they are framed.

Artist Statement

“To me there is no greater reward than being able to bring
happiness to people through my artwork.”

Maria D’Angelo has been creating art since she was a child in Staten Island, NY and often says she feels as though she was born with a pencil in her hand. She now lives in a small NJ town where farms and wildlife still exist.

Maria has a natural talent that has blossomed under the mentorship she receives from acclaimed artist Krystii Melaine. She has spent much time traveling the US visiting museums, historic sites, and attending events which inspire her artistic vision.

Maria works in several mediums, always with the desire to communicate the emotions and energy of her subjects through fine details. It is these fine details that her clients most often remark about when they see her work.

“Detailed realism is my primary goal. I want my subjects to look as though they will come to life and leap off the paper.”
